ABOUT SAMUEL HALL SOCIETY

The Samuel Hall Society was born out of necessity.  Originally, we began as a social unit in 1917 at the old Brigham Young Academy as the Goldbrickers.  Started by a group of young men that fought in WW1 together.  To Goldbrick was a slang term for soldiers that shirked duties or otherwise loafed about.  Tongue in cheek and with a little irony they named themselves this because they were the hardest working men around.  The social club flourished for the next 46 years until Ernie Wilkinson got mad and kicked them out of BYU.  To get back on campus, they renamed themselves the Samuel Hall Society.  Sam Hall once again became the largest social group around and a number of years later, they were kicked off campus again for a "parade incident".  Off campus Sam Hall again had a resurgence through the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Towards the end of the 90's, BYU increased their efforts to get rid of all off campus social clubs.  Chi Tri, PDG, Kappa, CDU, and Tau Sig met their demise.  SHS tried to keep on going, but succumbed to the pressure and the lack of other social clubs to have fun with. We are once again rebooting the good times and want you to join our effort.

We encourage intellectual growth and success by offering alumni networking opportunities and a variety of events throughout the year, which encourage bonding between members and help create a foundation of lasting friendships.
